Thoughts on BELLA

This is a lily that I grew several years ago. I drew the drawing for the painting, but didn't get it painted

until recently. I kept looking at the drawing and really liking it, but continued to pass it up.

This spring I was doing some cleaning in my studio and took another look at the drawing,

and asked myself why I hadn't painted it. I decided that I had drawn it too big, and that was why I wasn't in love

with it. Since I still loved the flower so much I decided to create a composition that would support the

beauty and elegance of the lily. So, I experimented with drapery, and the background, and tabletop until

I was pleased. I'm glad I didn't paint it any sooner, because I have learned that

some ideas just need time to come together.
