GLORY OF THE MORNING                                                     18 x 31

Thoughts on GLORY OF THE MORNING

Last spring a friend gave me two morning glory plants that we planted by our mailbox.

We were so excited when the first stem was long enough to wrap over the top of the mailbox and

then be held in place with the flag.

As the summer progressed and the plant grew we were amazed at how full and big it became.

It took over the mailbox and every day I had to pull it away so that the mailman could leave the mail.

It was such a pleasure every day to go to the mailbox because I would see the incredible blue of the flowers

and the lovely spirals of the buds and twists of the stems.  It was just a small step to consider painting them.

The tendrils were so bouncy and alive!  But it was the clear blue of the flowers that captivated me.

Their color is so powerful, but the flowers are incredibly fragile and

each one lasts for such a short time, except in a painting!
