Thoughts on Ascension...

When I first saw this orchid I thought it was the most beautiful orchid I had ever seen.
Sitting in the in the sunlight though, it was breathtaking.
I left the orchid in its clay pot because I like
the textural and aesthetic contrast of the simple earthen pot
with the delicate and ethereal qualities of the flowers.
To me the clay pot symbolizes the earthiness of the physical world,
while the flowers represent a more ethereal plane.

This painting has a hand-carved, gilded frame.
