On the Edge

ON THE EDGE                                               34 x 40 inches

Thoughts on On the Edge...

This stem of irises leaned over and lay on the ground before the flowers bloomed.
Even in that precarious state, the flowers opened beautifully,
and ultimately produced seven blooms.
This ability to adapt is one of the reasons that I love plants.

But in this world of climate change
the ability to adapt is being pushed to and sometimes beyond their limits.
Here that is symbolized by the placement of the vase that bends,
on the edge of the tabletop,
as well as by the precise and delicate balance of the curving vase
holding the cantilevered stem of irises.

This painting is on canvas in a floater frame with a gilded front face.
